Description

The Air Dagger is one of the Four Elemental tools of the Zelator Adeptus Minor. It is used by the Adept in all magical workings of the element of Air, and under the presidency of the Hebrew letter Vav and the “Sword of the Tarot.” The handle of the Air Dagger is yellow, the color assigned to elemental Air. Divine Hebrew names and sigils are painted in flashing violet. The dagger can be likened to the tip of a spear, cast through the air to hit its target.

The attribution of the four elements of the Minor Arcana of the Tarot comes from 19th-century French occultist Eliphas Levi. It was Levi who equated Vav, the third letter of the name YHVH (the Tetragrammaton or Holy “Four-lettered Name” of the Divine), with the element of Air and the Qabalistic World of Yetzirah, the formative, airy, astral realm and the Tarot suit of Swords. The direction corresponding to Air is east. In Hebrew, Air is called Ruach meaning “breath” as well as “spirit.”

Air represents the conscious mind, thought processes, and mental activity. One of the primary functions of the mind is to understand our environment; to analyze things and separate them into various categories for our better understanding. The mental act of separating things into categories can be compared to the cutting action of a sword slicing through the air, or a knife cutting herbs.
